Take a look back

Dear friends of Alternative Photography, many of my "Collodion customers" keep complaining that exposure times on "Wet Plate Collodion" are too long, especially with portrait shots. I`ve been wondering how this evil can at least be mitigated and came across lithium salts. These salts produce soft negatives with beautiful tonal values (the ladies will appreciate that) and reduce exposure times compared to usual salts by an entire f-stop. This already is something but not all.The maturing times of most collodies are a thing of the past, because collodion prepared with Lithium salts only need 24 hours for complete maturity. For a better shelf life Collodium and the salts are kept in seperate bottles. Shortly before coating the plates both solutions are mixed in equal parts in the required quantity. Eureka !!!!! |
